Kate
Kate serves as Planning and Economic Development Director at Capital District Regional Planning Commission (CDRPC). She is also an adjunct professor at UAlbany leading Urban Planning grad students in hands-on Studio classes. A recent class delved into climate adaptation in the South End of Albany and focusing on equitable urban forestry solutions to combat the urban heat island effect, promote biodiversity, and address other issues in the neighborhood. She previously served as Principal Planner for the City of Saratoga Springs for almost a decade and had the incredible opportunity of being involved with the formation of Pitney Meadows, providing guidance to its founding, conservation easement, and establishment of the PUD. Kate has decades of planning, open space conservation, climate resiliency, complete streets, and economic development experience.
She is passionate about ecological restoration, and the idea that a love of nature and love of cities doesn’t need to be at odds and has of late been very focused on how to bring nature back into cities.
In her free time, Kate loves to garden, bike, and try new things (stained glass class is next). She is a Boardmember with SoBro Conservancy and Friends of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, and volunteer with Treetoga. She and her husband Jared have two kids (Skylar and Ethan), are recent empty nesters and love to travel. They are frequent visitors to Pitney which is also her dog Shea’s favorite place in the world.
