Jim

Jim has been a resident of Saratoga Springs since 1981 and lives in a former stable off North Broadway that he and his late wife repurposed as their residence. His career in the museum and historic preservation fields was spent largely with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, where he was Director of the Bureau of Historic Sites and Peebles Island Resource Center. He was the Commissioner’s liaison with state historic site and park “friends” groups and served on the boards of the New York State, Mid-Atlantic, and American Association of Museums.

In Saratoga Springs, Jim was chair of the city’s Design Review Commission for twelve years as well as a member of the Comprehensive Plan and Community Land Preservation Committees. Since his retirement from State Parks (hard to believe) almost 18 years ago, he has been an active committee and board member of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. In the spring of 2017, he began volunteering at Pitney Meadows, helping lay out the first community garden plots and erecting the high tunnel. That fall, he joined the board and began working with fellow board member Rich Torkelson on many of the farm’s buildings. Today, he serves on the farm’s Buildings and Grounds Committee.
