Janet

Janet coordinates the Nest Box Project at Pitney Meadows, which monitors native cavity-nesting birds across the farm and reports data to Cornell's NestWatch program. What started as her noticing a trail of neglected boxes in 2024 turned into a full volunteer program, built on the organizational discipline she brought to her career in the software industry.

She's spent several seasons building hands-on knowledge of the farm's bird life, tracking bluebirds, tree swallows, and wrens through nesting season and coordinating a team of volunteers to do the same. She's looking forward to learning more about Pitney's flora and ecology as part of this work group, and lending her organizational skills wherever they're useful in helping ideas move forward.

Janet and her husband John have lived in the Saratoga area for over 30 years and raised their son here. They supported Pitney Meadows in its early days as Founding Patrons and reconnected with the farm about two years ago through the nest box project. Now retired, Janet is excited to get involved with the Stewardship work group. Her other interests include traveling, hiking, and photography.
