SUGARING + WEATHER CHARTING
The garden may not be producing much right now, but that doesn’t mean it’s not harvest season in NY! Sugar maple trees can be tapped for sap and boiled to make syrup when daytime temperatures are above freezing and nights are still below 32 degrees. Support our local producers and visit a sugar shack from the list at nysmaple.com. The last two weekends of March are typically open house days at sugar shacks across the state. This year you’ll have to call around to see who’s open!

These photos can help you understand what 23,000 pounds of produce looks like….
In our first post of #csa Week, we mentioned that we donated 23,000 pounds of produce to the local pantries this past season. Our goal was 15,000 lbs. going into the season, a big jump from the 6,000 lbs. donated in 2019. This huge increase was our reaction to Covid-19 and how our community could be affected. One of our pantries told us their demand had gone up 300% due to the pandemic.
Our goals are similar for 2021. You can join us by supporting our nonprofit farm through a direct donation (pitneymeadowscommunityfarm.org/gift/). A CSA membership is also a great way to support our grow-to-give efforts. We want to thank all our past and present supporters and CSA members who helped make this happen.
