New Beginnings & Buildings!
On Saturday, September 21st, we celebrated two very important milestones on the Farm. We dedicated our brand new Children's Greenhouse, made possible by a generous grant from the Alfred Z Solomon Charitable Trust. The interior of the greenhouse was outfitted with a grant from the Rotary Club of Saratoga Springs. Our thanks to Mayor Kelly, County Supervisor Matthew Veitch, the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, and all who were present to celebrate the opening of this building that will host thousands of children in the coming years to learn more about where their food comes from and how to grow it themselves! The Children’s Greenhouse allows the farm to have a dedicated space for children and extends the growing and learning season into late fall and early spring. The Farm’s Education Committee, made up of local educators and administrators, is creating a farm-to-school curriculum to be used for workshops and classes for all ages moving forward.
Additionally, we dedicated our brand new restroom facility! A permanent restroom facility will greatly improve visitor experience, giving guests easy and ADA compliant access to restrooms and hand-washing stations, making this community gathering place an even bigger draw. Seeing the need to for improved infrastructure on the Farm, Judith A. Pitney stepped forward in early 2019 with a lead gift to construct the new building. Thanks to this lead gift from Judith, a supporting grant from the Lowe's Charitable & Educational Foundation, AND: Architecture & Design firm, Harris Builders, and MANY volunteers, Pitney Meadows Community Farm now has a permanent restroom facility for all of our special guests and community members.
Thanks everyone for continuing to believe in the dream of this farm and all it can give back to our beloved community.
