COMMUNITY GARDEN

Founded in 2016, the Community Garden has always been a place where people in the community come to grow food, connect with one another, and learn about gardening and the natural world. The Community Garden has expanded each year incrementally from 40 to 125+ garden beds, with the installation of a children’s greenhouse and the evolution of public gardens, including the fairy and butterfly garden and, most recently, a pollinator garden named Pauline's Pollinator Habitat.

People of all backgrounds and gardening experiences come to learn and teach others about growing culinary, medicinal, and beneficial plants. Many gather here to share recipes and vegetables, and to enjoy the serenity of the landscape, delighting in ecological treasures such as Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, Monarch butterflies, and American Lady butterflies. Our gardeners represent individuals, families, and organizations such as CREATE Community Studios, Saratoga Pride, LifeWorks Community Action, Unlimited Potential, Saratoga Senior Center, MLK Saratoga, and others. If your organization or group is interested in a garden bed, please email our Garden Programs & Stewardship Manager directly at melissa.spiegel@pitneymeadows.org.

Become a Community Gardener

All of our garden beds for the 2026 season are now fully reserved!

Each year, returning gardeners have the opportunity to renew their beds through the end of February. Beginning in March, we reach out to individuals on our waitlist to fill any remaining unassigned beds.

If you’re interested in securing a garden bed in the future, we invite you to join the waitlist below. We’ll be in touch as space becomes available.

Garden beds are available in six different sizes, including options that are more accessible for gardeners with limited mobility.

There is one suggested cost range at $100-300 that gardeners pay annually. Gardeners can pay any amount between the given range that is within their own financial access. The annual payment for participating in the Community Garden ensures that the programs and resources at Pitney Meadows Community Farm continue to thrive. We are also offering scholarships to make our program accessible to those in our community who might not otherwise be able to join.

Sovereign Gardens Initiative (SGI)

The Sovereign Gardens Initiative (SGI) is our community-powered approach to growing food and connection where it’s needed most. Supported by funding from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ Urban Farms & Community Gardens Grant Program, SGI expands access to fresh, locally grown food by partnering with community-based organizations to establish and sustain gardens directly within their own spaces, from housing communities and health centers to veteran support sites and neighborhood hubs.

Through SGI, Pitney Meadows provides the tools and support needed to grow successfully, including compost, seeds, raised beds, irrigation, and hands-on guidance throughout the season.
