Sarah joins Pitney Meadows with many years of experience in experiential education and nature & farm-based programs. She got her start at Green Chimney's Children's Services Farm and Wildlife Center in Brewster, NY specializing in nature-based therapeutic programs for special education and children in residential treatment. She began interning in the children’s garden and joining staff as facilitator of the vocational farm program, and later as director of a city-to-farm career training program for New York City youth in transitional living and foster care. Interested in developing her skills, she then spent a year working and learning as a CSA farm apprentice on Common Thread CSA in Hamilton, NY. After, she moved back into education at the Children’s Adventure Garden at New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, where she coordinated an educational internship and citizen science program for teens and taught K-5th grade programs. Most recently she worked as director of public programs at Rocking the Boat, a youth development organization in the South Bronx, where she worked on ecological restoration efforts on the Bronx River and developed hands-on programs for all ages.
Along with ongoing learning within the field of environmental education, Sarah holds a BA from the University of New Hampshire and MS from the London School of Economics. Sarah is so excited to join the growing team at Pitney Meadows as Education Director. She looks forward to developing partnerships and programs for all members of the community to explore the natural world, build connections to the land and healthy food, and develop a sense of place.
