Local food systems are essential, and Drew Smith has been passionate about food systems for quite a while. Growing up in Geneseo, New York, Drew and his family would often spend fall weekends helping his Great-Grandparents with their vineyard in Hammondsport, NY. Drew began his farming career at the Wegmans Organic Farm in Canandaigua, NY in the Spring of 2014 after graduating with B.S. from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science & Forestry. The core teachings on science, sustainability, and the connectedness of ecology that Drew gleaned while studying are essential in the ag sphere, and allowed Drew to excel while growing the innovative projects undertaken by Wegmans. Organic vegetable production, sustainable high tunnel management, labor tracking and cost of production modeling, are just a few of the areas Drew focused on during that time. Drew is very happy to be joining the team, and is looking forward to getting to talk to the community about food systems, soil biology, tomato trellising, and any other facet of farming. After relocating to Glens Falls in 2019, Drew and his wife Mary continue to grow food with love, abundance, and joy!
