Blending outdoor adventure, artistic expression, and hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities, “Nurtured in Nature: A Summer Camp for Curious Explorers” offers more than a typical day camp experience. Each day follows a gentle, child-centered rhythm that honors the magic of play, discovery, and connection with nature, self, and community.

"Pitney Meadows Community Farm offers an unparalleled environment for children to connect with the natural world,” says Andrew Ferrone, Nurtured in Nature instructor. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to guide students on their nature journey here, and I'm thrilled to expand this experience into a summer camp program. We're weaving together STEAM activities, mindfulness practices, and plenty of fun and games to nurture every aspect of a child's development."

Campers will spend their camp days in discovery mode, adventuring on guided foraging walks, designing clay impressions and mandalas inspired by patterns they find in nature, and so much more. They'll experiment with fabric dyeing, nature journaling, and freeform crafting using materials gathered from the farm’s fields and woodlands. Every activity is designed to spark imagination and foster creative expression while building an authentic relationship with the land.

In addition to crafts and nature exploration, campers will dive into a variety of  interactive STEAM learning with tools designed to ignite curiosity about science and technology in the natural world; from coding activities using Indi Cars, guiding their tiny "pollinators" across maps and challenges; to virtual journeys to global ecosystems using VR technology. This unique integration of environmental science and playful invention allows campers to see themselves as both caretakers of their own environment and creative problem solvers for the world beyond.

"We are thrilled to continue growing the potential and opportunities to offer more nature-based experiences where kids can nourish their own senses as well as a sense of community, says Leah Ferrone, Nurtured in Nature instructor. “This summer camp format lends itself to a different, deeper dive focus with the nature connection concepts, exploration, and discovery. And to wrap that into good ole' summer camp fun like fabric dying and water play, well, it doesn't get better than that. We're going to have a blast."

Of course, no summer camp is complete without plenty of carefree fun. Each day includes time for cooling off with water games, playing kickball in the sunshine, flying kites, blowing bubbles, and decorating the pathways with bright chalk art. Between activities, campers will enjoy popsicles and fresh produce tastings straight from the farm.

“As a mom, I know how much it matters to give our kids space to wonder, explore, and feel at home in the natural world—and there’s truly no better place for that than Pitney Meadows,” says Brooke McConnell, Executive Director of Pitney Meadows Community Farm. “Being able to partner with Leah and bring the Nurtured in Nature curriculum to life through a summer camp at the farm feels like a dream come true. This program is all about joyful discovery, creative learning, and deep connection—with nature, with community, and with each other.”

This immersive, small-group experience is limited to 20 campers to ensure personalized attention and a close-knit community feel. The program is led by two experienced educators, a camp counselor, and a high school-aged teen mentor, offering a supportive and welcoming environment where every camper is seen, heard, and celebrated.
